Bomb found in Hakenfelde: 12,400 people have to be evacuated!

A World War II bomb weighing 100 kg was discovered during construction work in Hakenfelde on Tuesday morning. At 8:30 a.m., construction workers reported the discovery on Neuendorfer Strasse. Since the bomb poses no immediate threat, defusing it will be postponed until tomorrow. The area around the site was cordoned off and police are monitoring it around the clock. A restricted area of up to 500 meters affects around 12,400 residents who are being evacuated to emergency accommodation.

Evacuation measures also affect the Vivantes Clinic Spandau as well as several schools and daycare centers in the area. These facilities may not be entered or left during defusing. In addition, a number of streets, including Neuendorfer Straße and Schäferstraße, will be partially closed. The fire department has set up telephone numbers to support people who need help.
