Refugees in Germany: Berlin's integration senator calls for reform of the distribution system In view of the increased number of refugees in Germany, the Berlin integration senator Cansel Kiziltepe has called for a reform of the distribution mechanism. Especially for densely populated city -states such as Berlin, the current regulation is no longer up to date because they only had limited areas for new refugee accommodation. Kiziltepe is already in conversation with Hamburg and Bremen to achieve a special regulation for city -states.

Refugees in Germany: Berlin's Senator for Integration is calling for the reform of the distribution system

In view of the increased number of refugees in Germany,

the Berlin integration senator Cansel Kiziltepe has called for a reform of the distribution mechanism. Especially for densely populated city -states such as Berlin, the current regulation is no longer up to date because they only had limited areas for new refugee accommodation. Kiziltepe is already in conversation with Hamburg and Bremen to achieve a special regulation for city -states.

The distribution mechanism in Germany is based on the so -called Königstein key, which determines how many asylum seekers every federal state must accommodate. The calculation is based on the tax revenue and the population. According to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, the proportion of refugees is currently 5.2 percent.

The integration senator also emphasized that in addition to the common refugee flows, many Ukrainians also fled before the Russian attack war. Many of them would be privately accommodated in Berlin, since the city has a high welcome culture and pioneering services in integration.

Berlin took up around 16,000 refugees in the first half of this year, including 7,473 asylum seekers and 8,502 war refugees from Ukraine. Although the latter group decreased compared to the previous year, their number is still at a high level due to the continuing war.

canel Kiziltepe assumes that another 10,000 to 12,000 refugees will come to Berlin by the end of the year. In order to offer them temporary accommodation, tent -like halls could also be used as provisionals. This would be an emergency solution to protect people from homelessness, the senator emphasized. In the long term, however, it is the goal to accommodate the refugees in reasonable accommodations. The senator referred to the construction of modular accommodations (MUF) as a long -term solution.

A list of potential areas is currently being created in all Berlin districts on which the tent -like halls could be built. However, Kiziltepe did not call any concrete locations. The lightweight buildings should serve as a temporary solution until apartments are available for the refugees.

It remains to be seen whether a reform of the distribution mechanism is implemented in Germany and whether Berlin receives a special regulation for city -states. In any case, the integration senator strives to provide the refugees appropriate accommodations.
