Demolition of the A100 bridges in Berlin: What residents now need to know!

The demolition work on the Ringbahnbrücke and the Westend Bridge on the A100 is currently in full swing in Berlin. The demolition began on Saturday, April 12, 2025, and should be completed by Thursday, April 17, 2025. The two bridges were blocked due to structural damage and an enlarged crack on the Ringbahnbrücke. These steps were considered necessary to ensure the safety of road users and the functionality of S-Bahn traffic. Morgenpost was already in planning for a new building, while the ring railway bridge was closed at short notice.

The first results of the demolition are already clearly visible: a large hole shows that essential concrete elements have been broken off. By Sunday morning, April 13th, the last major concrete elements fell into a special fall bed made of sand that protects the S-Bahn tracks underneath. Throughout the work, six special excavators and around 70 builders are in use around the clock. Berliner Kurier informed on Monday with the removal of the approximately 11,000 tons of construction, with recyclable parts being reused should.

traffic planning and compensation

The traffic management measures were optimized to relieve the flow of traffic during the construction work. The use of the blocked section is particularly critical, where around 50,000 people are traveling every day. In addition, compensation of 100 euros per night for hotel costs has been set up for residents who are affected by the noise pollution, provided that the noise limit values are exceeded. Morgenpost lifts to the fact that the negative impairment for the residents and road users minimize.

While the S-Bahn is to drive again under the bridges from April 28, 2025, concrete plans for the construction of the two bridges are not yet finalized. The tender for the replacement construction of the Ringbahnbrücke began on Friday, and the aim is to issue the contract for the new building concept in summer. The main criteria are a short construction time and a low impairment of S-Bahn traffic. The Senate Department for the environment, transport and climate protection notes that the construction period is a decisive criterion for the awarding of the construction orders.

The work on the Westend Bridge, which is located between the Kaiserdamm and Spandauer Damm junctions, also started. This bridge was planned for a long time for the demolition and new building. Deges has set up a webcam as part of the construction work to show the progress of the demolition work live. Further information on the status of the construction work is available online. berlin.de offers current insights into the project diary.
