Future of the daycare centers: Welfare associations are calling for urgent reforms
Alarm mood in East Germany! The three important social and welfare associations, Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland e.V., AWO Bundesverband e.V. and People's Solidarity Bundesverband e.V., beat alarm in a common call. The serious decline in birth rates in the eastern federal states not only affects the future of children, but also on the entire infrastructure of childcare!
Those responsible require immediate action to reverse the worrying developments that have already started. Susanna Karawanskij , President of People's Solidarity, is horrified: "The falling children's numbers are now forcing carriers to massively reduce or even dismiss their offers. This is unacceptable!" But it's not just about numbers-it's about the quality of life for families and children in many regions of the East.

In an urgent appeal, Kathrin Sonnenholzner , the chairwoman of the Presidium of the AWO, calls: "The eastern daycare centers urgently need to receive our attention! The federal politics is required to get targeted measures in close cooperation with the federal states." The demographic change should not be regarded as a threat, but as a Chance for improvement of daycare quality!
The situation is serious: In several regions, the three welfare associations of the #zukunzitaost initiative feel the drastic declines of the number of children up close - with questionable effects on many facilities.
