Waldbrand in Gohrischheide: emergency services fight against impending danger!
in Gohrischheide, Saxony, blazes a forest fire that is currently not under control. The fire brigade and other organizations are on duty to fight the flames. The operations management is concerned that a rotating wind could carry the fire to Brandenburg. However, there is currently a smoke development on Brandenburg territory, while no direct spread of the fire was found. The expected wind change at night could cause additional dangers at 1 or 2 a.m., which is why the fire brigade Liebenda is planning a larger team for the weekend.
Around 300 emergency services from fire departments, the technical relief organization and other organizations have already been mobilized. The area affected is estimated by the district office at around 200 hectares, while the fire brigade reports 1,000 hectares. This mismatch could partly be due to the complicated location in a ammunition -contaminated area, which makes it difficult to extinguish the extinguishing work. Some new firefighting techniques that are designed for such environments cannot be used, corresponding framework conditions make the situation more difficult.
use of air support
To support the extinguishing measures, several helicopters are in use, including a federal police helicopter, which has already dropped 63,000 liters of fire water. According to the district fire chief Thomas Fischer, four helicopters are currently on site, while the Bundeswehr provides two fire -fighting helicopters. It should be noted that the helicopters can only fly in unmaid areas, which significantly limits their uses. The fire brigade also receives support from a police water cannon.
The city of Dresden has meanwhile issued a general decree that limits the entry of the forest. This measure comes into force immediately and is intended to prevent people from entering endangered forest areas because the majority of forest fires are triggered by human action.
harvest and weather conditions
In response to the impending danger, early harvests are carried out in the Elbe-Elbe region in order to avoid harvest failures. However, this leads to financial losses for the farmers concerned. A high risk of forest fire in Brandenburg is also expected on Friday, with the German Weather Service already expects the second highest or highest danger level on Saturday.
The forest fire statistics show that Brandenburg recorded the highest number of fires in 2022. With 523 fires and about 1,426 hectares of burned area, it is not surprising that the region is the focus regarding forest fires. Saxony followed with 217 fires and a burned area of 785 hectares, which makes the current efforts to fight fire all the more urgent. The fact that around 90 percent of the surface fires occur between June and August and the vast majority of the fires are due to human failure increasingly increases the request for prudent use of nature.
For more information about the current situation, the district of Meißen has set up a citizen phone. The phone number is 03521 725 7251.
