ver.di demands higher wages and more free time for public service

The United Service Union ver.di has set a powerful sign! There are major changes for the 2.5 million employees in the public service of the federal government and municipalities. On October 9, 2024 in Berlin, the trade union representatives announced their huge demands: a decent plus of eight percent or at least 350 euros more a month should come to the table for the hard work of the employees!

But that's not all - ver.di goes on! The training allowances and the payment for interns should also be increased properly, and by a whopping 200 euros per month. In order to cushion the increasingly oppressive working conditions, the union also demands three days off. The future will be more flexible, because with the new "my time account", the employees should be able to decide for themselves how they manage their time and remuneration-a real revolution in the world of work!

strengthen purchasing power, secure jobs

"In the public service in the public service, it is more than just salary-it is about strengthening purchasing power and boosting internal demand. This is crucial for our economic growth!" emphasizes the ver.di chairman Frank Werneke . He warns: "The public service is in the terminal! Unoccupied spots and lack of staff are the order of the day. Therefore we have to enforce our demands - with money, more flexibility and less pressure!"

The innovative "my time account" plays a crucial role. In the future, the employees should be able to determine whether they will receive their income increases directly or want to convert them into additional leisure and recovery phases. The days when work and leisure were rigidly separated are over!

new standards for stressful professions

In addition to the financial revaluation,

The claims package contains a collective agreement at the partial retirement, which is intended to benefit from employees in particularly stressful professions. And for those who work in the health sector, a paid break in the change of change is required - a long overdue measure!

Another point on the agenda: the changeover of working hours for civil servants. Here ver.di aims to reduce the weekly hours from 41 to a competitive level of tariffs. This can mean a significant improvement in work-life balance for many!

The negotiations are conducted in cooperation with other unions such as the GdP, GEW, IG Bau and the DBB civil servant association, which brings additional weight behind the demands. The first round of negotiations is scheduled for January 24, 2025 - and the anticipation is already noticeable!

Now all eyes are directed towards the coming months. Ver.di made it clear: you are ready for a fundamental change in the public service. The pressure increases, the signs are on change - and the employees expect nothing less than a noticeable improvement in their working conditions!
