Dissatisfaction among psychotherapists: IT problems slow down the practice

dissatisfaction with psychotherapists: A wake -up call for digitization in healthcare

In modern practice, psychotherapists face a major challenge: the necessary digital infrastructure proves to be inadequate, which has a significant impact on daily work. A survey by the German Psychotherapist Association (DPTV) with 2,770 participants has impressively shown that the resentment against the providers of practical management systems (PVS) and telematics infrastructure (Ti) is widespread, even if no general rejecting of digitization can be determined.

It is particularly noticeable that every fourth respondent thinks about changing the provider. These considerations are above all the result of technical problems, long waiting times and a lack of price transparency. The most frequently used providers, such as Hasomed with the elephant software, but also Epicurus and Psyprax, are not rated well, in particular with regard to the quality of service and accessibility of the IT support. In contrast, the providers do new media company with Smarty and ergosoft with psychodate better.

The digital hurdles that many practices have to overcome are in direct contradiction to the desire for a easier and more efficient bureaucracy. The new survey also shows that the majority of psychotherapists are interested in future digital solutions, especially when it comes to the application and requirement of consultations. This desire for digitization could potentially reduce the time for administrative activities and create more time for direct work with patients.

Similar problems were already uncovered in a 2019 survey. This continuity in dissatisfaction indicates an urgent need for action, and Michael Ruh, deputy DPTV federal chairman, also emphasizes that the situation has not improved. "Some problems have even become more common," he says. A bigger problem is revealed here: If digitization is not implemented satisfactorily, not only the efficiency of the practices, but also the quality of patient care.

These findings are a wake -up call for everyone involved in the healthcare system. The further training of providers in relation to the requirements of psychotherapists could make a significant contribution to successfully designing the digital transformation. Such efforts are necessary to meet modern demands on the healthcare system and to optimize psychotherapeutic care. The desire for better digital solutions could not only make the work of the therapists easier, but ultimately also improve patient care.
