Support of the Anne Frank Center: CDU/CSU demands permanent support in the Federal Budget 2024

Today in Berlin, the planned reduction of funds for the Anne Frank Center in the 2024 budget ensures great concern and outrage. The CDU/CSU parliamentary group has asked the Federal Government to permanently support Anne Frank Zentrum, since the fight against racism and anti-Semitism is a task and challenge. The original planning of completely deleting the support of the Anne Frank Center would not only have meant the end of the nationwide Anne Frank Action Day at schools, but also contributed to the strengthening of anti -Semitic crimes, especially in schools, as has become clear on October 7, 2023.

As a Berlin citizen, it is particularly important to me that youth education increasingly focuses on the fight against racism and anti -Semitism. The significant increase in anti -Semitic crimes in Germany shows that we have to do more for tolerance and education in youth education. It is irresponsible to carry out the middle cuts for the Anne Frank Center, especially against the background of current social developments.

The Anne Frank Zentrum has an important role in educational work against racism and discrimination. Through exhibitions, workshops and pedagogical offers, the center makes a valuable contribution to sensitization to the topics of anti -Semitism, racism and discrimination. The support of the center is therefore not just an important signal, but an urgently required measure to shape the future of young people in Berlin and Germany.

in Berlin has anti -Semitism a special historical relevance that goes back to the time of National Socialism. The memory of the terrible events of the Holocaust and the legacy of Anne Frank are of particular importance in Berlin. The Anne Frank Zentrum helps to keep this memory awake and to clarify today's generation about the importance of tolerance and memory.

It is time that the political decision -makers do not make the support of the Anne Frank Center a political game ball, but recognize the importance of this institution for society and provide appropriate funds.

Finally, a table follows with statistical information on anti -Semitic crimes in Germany:

| Year | Number of anti -Semitic crimes |
| —— | ———————————— |
| 2020 | 2.351 |
| 2021 | 2.611 |
| 2022 | 2.841 |
| 2023 | 3.129 (until October) |

The increasing number of anti -Semitic crimes in recent years underlines the urgency of commitment to anti -Semitism and the need to support Anne Frank Center.
