Student budget 2024: Treptow-Köpenick enables schools to make democratic decisions with € 1,500 budget
Marco Brauchmann, district councilor for further training, school, culture and sport, announces that Treptow-Köpenick will also take part in the student budget in 2024. Schools in Treptow-Köpenick have the opportunity to take part in the project, in which pupils can decide on the use of a fixed budget.
Four schools can be added to the project in the coming year. All public schools in district sponsors, including primary schools, integrated secondary schools, high schools, community schools and schools with special education funding, can participate. In addition to the budget, the schools receive pedagogical support in the form of advice, materials and workshops from the youth participation service point, which has coordinated the school budget in Berlin since 2015. The application for the student budget 2024 is via the youth participation service.
The application period ends on December 8, 2023. At the beginning of the year, schools receive feedback on the application and the project implementation is expected to be planned from February to November 2024.
Local effects and context:
The student budget enables students to play an active role in deciding on the use of budgets and thus promotes their democratic participation. By participating in the school budget, schools in Treptow-Köpenick are given the opportunity to strengthen their students in this process and to sensitize them to the importance of citizen participation.
By accompanying the youth participation service center, the schools receive additional support in implementing the project. This helps the students to combine practical and theoretical understanding and to further develop their democratic skills.
The school budget also offers schools the opportunity to take their individual needs and priorities into account and to support locally relevant projects or initiatives.
Participation in the school budget not only strengthens the commitment and participation of the students, but also the cooperation between schools and the responsible district administration.
