New path for the cemetery Baumschulenweg: Sustainability in focus
asphalt ade! Sustainable materials are now being used in the cemetery Baumschulenweg!
Berlin turns things around: Instead of sealed paths, an environmentally friendly, water -bound route is now being used! The damaged asphalt areas of around 900 square meters are smoothly transformed into a green, lively area by the street and green area office. This is not only a step towards modern cemetery management, but also part of a larger redesign that has already started in other areas of the cemetery last year.
A real environmental protection hero! The new way is not just any way - it is the first step towards a better water balance! The approximately 300 meter long path, which runs parallel to Kiefholzstrasse in the new part of the cemetery, will now effectively seep away and evaporate rainwater. This benefits not only the path itself, but also the majestic trees that are on the side. You now get easier what you need to grow!
When does it start?
The exciting construction work will start in the week of November 11, 2024 and are to last until March 2025. The planning is well thought out: the municipality is closely with the cemetery administration so as not to endanger all planned burials.
costs and funding
But what about the costs? The entire investment amounts to around 140,000 euros - a prize that invests in the future! Around 50,000 euros are financed by the funding program "Measures to develop and clean neighborhoods, places and public spaces" of the Senate Department. The rest, around 90,000 euros, comes from special funds for compensation and replacement measures. Show a clear case of responsibility!
Dr. Claudia Leistner, district councilor and head of the urban development department, clearly speaks: "The soils can better absorb the rain and seepage water after the redesign.
This creative redesign is more than a nasty construction mandate - it is a step into a greener future for the capital! If that's not a reason to be happy!
