New exhibition in Köpenick: A look at the forgotten children of Europe
The Köpenick focus library opens a touching view of fates that often remain in the shade. From the 25. November awaits visitors the urgent exhibition "Sometimes I paint a house for us - Europe's forgotten children". This extraordinary presentation deals with a fundamental question: Does every child have a right to a safe home and a decent life?
The exhibition based on the book of the same name will get under the skin. It shows the haunting photographs of Alea Horst and the moving vignettes of Mehrdad Zaeri, who jointly draw a picture of the terrible living conditions that many children and adolescents have to endure in the refugee camps on Lesbos, Greece. Not only art is shown here, but also the voices of those who are often not heard.
insights into a shattering reality
The pictures and statements of the young protagonists take the viewer into a world full of fear, poverty and despair. This exhibition is more than just a visual pleasure - it asks to look and recognize the often invisible problems of European society. It is staged by Lesart, the Berlin Center for Children's and Youth Literature, and offers a space for reflection and compassion.
For everyone who wants to experience this urgent experience themselves, the exhibition remains up to 31. January 2025 accessible free of charge during the library opening hours.
