Captain of Köpenick: 175th birthday with ceremony and cake
On February 13, 1849, Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt, who became known as the captain of Köpenick. Voigt was a shoemaker from East Prussia, who gained celebrity through the spectacular occupation of the town hall in Köpenick. He disguised himself as a captain, entered the town hall with a squad of soldiers, arrested the mayor and robbed the city treasury.
On the occasion of his 175th birthday, the Tourismus Association Berlin Treptow-Köpenick e.V. invites everyone interested to commemorate the Captain anniversary together. The event will take place on Tuesday, February 13th, at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Köpenick town hall. Köpenick's main men, including Heiko Stang and Benno Radtke, as well as the Hauptmanngarde with Gert Bölke are expected. Master baker Rainer Schwadtke from the Dresden Feinbäckerei will also present a captain cake. Cachers will also serve a late breakfast.
The event is open to everyone interested, registration is not required. Guests are encouraged to appear with an original Wilhelm Voigt Bart to celebrate the anniversary.
