Large school conversion in Grünau: New community school and sports hall come!

In a significant step towards improving the school infrastructure, the foundation stone for the construction of a sports hall of the Grünau School took place today. This project is part of an extensive planning for the expansion of the school complex to a community school that will in future have more space and better facilities.

The planned expansion is intended to increase the number of school places from 810 to impressive 1,132. This measure not only includes the construction of a sports hall, but also the creation of three indoor parts without stands in order to meet the increasing need for sports areas. The new sports hall is realized on the existing sports field at Walchenseestrasse 51, where it is supplemented by a sports function building that can be used for recreational sports.

investments and construction phases

The investment costs for this construction phase amount to around 11.440 million euros and are financed by the state of Berlin. The construction work is subject to the management of SE Facility Management, Department of Building Construction, in the Treptow-Köpenick district office. The architects of Renner Architect GmbH are responsible for planning the new building.

The construction project is divided into three sections, whereby the plots on Walchenseestrasse 40 are intended for construction phases one and three, while the second section is connected to the sports field in the existing. This structured approach enables efficient development and implementation of the entire complex.

The completion of the sports hall is expected in the first quarter of 2026, while the outdoor facilities should be ready by July 2026. This progress will not only enrich school activities, but also benefit the entire community. It remains to be seen how this project will influence school operations and the leisure activities in the region, as www.berlin.de reports .
