Brutal assault in Baumschulenweg: District Advisory Board raises the alarm!

In the night from May 3 to May 4, 2025, Monir Khan was brutally attacked in Berlin-Baumschulenweg. The district office Treptow-Köpenick shares this incident and is horrified by the violence, which seems primarily racist. According to the district advisory board for participation and integration, this attack is a fig and cruel act that affects the entire community and is to be regarded as an expression of a worrying development in the region. The district advisory board demands extensive measures from the Senate Department for Interior and Sport to prevent such attacks in the future.

The procedure is considered in a broader context of racist motivated violence in Germany. According to the [VBRG e.V.] (https://verband-brg.de/rechte-rassist-und-antisemitic-get-in-deutschland-2022- annual balance sheets-der- victim advice center/), an alarming increase in the right and racist attacks can be recorded. In 2022, the number of such violent acts increased by more than 15 percent compared to the previous year. Racism was the dominant motif in more than half of the cases. Over 2,800 people were affected by politically motivated attacks, whereby the state of Berlin is particularly striking.

claims to politics

The district advisory board has made specific demands to ensure the safety of people with migration and escape history. These include:

  • Investigations of possible right -wing extremist networks
  • comprehensive protective measures for affected racist threats
  • improved lighting and video surveillance on risk offices
  • stronger police presence and the creation of safe freedom in public space
  • expansion of preventive educational work and social space -oriented projects
  • Cooperation between the police, regulatory office and social organizations
  • Use of migrant initiatives in citizen dialogues

In addition, a clear political positioning against racism is required at all levels. The community is called to report discrimination and extremely right -wing activities to the Berlin register.

an alarming picture

The increase in racist attacks in Berlin, as was recorded in the reports, is part of a terrifying trend. In 2022, 1,088 racially motivated attacks were registered, while the number of attacks against the LGBTIQA*+ Community is also highly alarming. In particular, queer people of color and transpersonen are affected, and violence against these groups has doubled. In addition, the statistics report on a large number of non -registered attacks, which increases the challenge to combat this violence.

The concern developments in society require quick action, both by the authorities and civil society. The attack on Monir Khan is not just an individual incident, but a wake -up call that underlines the need for collective engagement against racism and discrimination. The district advisory board and numerous initiatives are therefore tirelessly committed to security and participation of all citizens in Berlin.
