Population growth in Treptow-Köpenick and the effects on retail

according to a report by www.berlin.de ,
The district of Treptow-Köpenick has recorded continuous population growth in recent years, which will continue in the coming years. This leads to an increasing demand in retail, but this has to deal with the structural changes in stationary retail and the effects of corona pandemic. In order to meet this dynamic development, the retail and center concept (ZEHK) from 2016 is to be updated in order to adapt the local supply structures and to position the urban centers future-proof. The concept should be updated in 2024 and will be accompanied by various bodies from politics, business and specialist offices. In the third quarter of 2024, the public should be given the opportunity to find out about the update. By the end of 2024, a resolution is to be achieved by the district bodies as area development planning (BEP).

As a citizen of Berlin, we welcome this initiative because it contributes to adapting the local supply structures to population growth and making the city centers future -proof. The possibility of actively involved and informed is an important step to involve the needs and concerns of the citizens in the process. We therefore encourage all citizens to participate in public participation and to address their suggestions and questions to the specified contacts. The regular updates on the district office website also offer an important source of information about the current state of updating the retail and center concept.
