Telekom strengthens mobile communications in the Erzgebirge district

The Erzgebirge district benefits from improved mobile phone supply. Telekom has expanded three locations with 5G in the past two months. This expansion increases the area covering in the district and provides a larger range overall. This also improves the reception in buildings. The locations are located in Lößnitz, Scheibenberg and Thalheim. In addition, they also serve to supply along the Saxony-West railway lines.

In order to cover the increasing need for bandwidth - which increases annually by around 30 percent - Telekom continues to focus on a quick expansion, says Georg von Wagner, company spokesman for Deutsche Telekom.

currently, Telekom operates 134 mobile phone locations in the Erzgebirge district and thus reaches a cover of around 98 percent. Another 53 locations are to be added by 2025. In addition, extensions with LTE or 5G are planned at 64 radio masts.

For the construction of new locations, Telekom is dependent on cooperation with the municipalities or owners in order to rent suitable areas. Telekom currently operates over 36,000 mobile phone locations and is also building around 1,500 new locations annually.
