Completion of tariffs in seaports: Employees expect more wages and premiums

A huge breakthrough in the harbor industry! In an exciting membership survey, around 77.6 percent of the members of ver.di gave their consent to the provisional tariff result, which was achieved in the fifth round of negotiations with the employers of the Central Association of the German Seebäfenbetriebe (ZDS). A success that is important not only for the employees, but also for the entire industry! On September 27, 2024, the tariff result received the final approval of the ver.di federal tariff commission, and the new collective agreement will be given in force!

"We have proven staying power and it paid off more than!" Said ver.di negotiator Maren Ulbrich. "Without the massive participation of our members in the strikes and actions, we would not be here today!". In the lower wage groups in particular, the new collective agreement will bring decisive improvements. The real wages rise for all employees, so that everyone has more money in their pockets!

The new regulations in detail!

The collective agreement, which is valid until July 31, 2025, brings a number of great relief for workers at the seaports:

  • A tax and tax-free inflation compensation premium of 1,700 euros, which is already paid in October- and also for part-time employees!
  • an increase in hourly wages by a whopping 1.15 euros from October 1, 2024!
  • significant raising of the layer surcharges as well as the surcharges for Sundays and public holidays!
  • and Last but not least: Vacation money will be raised to 430 euros from next year!

These improved conditions are particularly valuable after warning strikes to be comprehensively to be comprehensively in the past few months occurred in important seaports such as Hamburg, Bremen and Bremerhaven. The pressure was enormous and the determination of the workers has finally paid off!
