Stuttgart celebrates: 'Hood Stories' wins ARD Topdocs competition
A triumph for the art of storytelling! On October 30, 2024, the Munich makers of Tellux Film with their groundbreaking project "Hood Stories-The Mobile Rap Schmiede" attracted everyone when they emerged at the renowned 13th "ARD Topdocs-Competition" as a winner!
What is behind the winning project? Here there is an exciting documentary series in which the milieu dropout and Grimme award winner $ ICK immerse themselves in the unmounted corners of Germany. Together with young talents from the country's most dangerous quarter, he composes rapeseed that reflect real life. It is an honest, invigorating homage to hip-hop culture that not only maintains, but also inspires: "Believe in yourself and do something of it!"
The moving background
The jury was enthusiastic about the approach of production. Oliver Köhr, the ARD editor-in-chief and chairwoman of the jury, explains: "Here we see a positive example that shows young people how they can overcome difficult situations." This message moves deep! The experienced author Alexander Bruch has learned from his own experience how much strength the hip-hop culture can give, and this knowledge is reflected in the conception of the film. "This series is a matter close to our heart," said Bruch. And you can feel that!
A groundbreaking event - for the team around Bruch, producer Claudia Jünger and producer Philipp Schall means not only recognition, but also a way to tell the stories of young people in a new way. "We hope that with the 'Hood Stories' we can create a platform that will often be used in the future," says Schall.
ard topdocs - what is that?
The ARD Topdocs competition is an exciting initiative that bundles the best documentary productions and events of ARD. In 2023, the renowned competition went into a new round in which 32 projects were submitted. The competition was strong and only the best concepts had the chance to shine in the final. In a gripping pitch session in Leipzig, “Hood Stories-The Mobile Rap Makers” prevailed against several remarkable competitors.
This series is not only integrated into the program of the first, but also receives support of up to 300,000 euros for the implementation. This is a great opportunity for young filmmakers to bring their visions to life! The stage is prepared for stories that not only want to entertain, but also want to stimulate thought!
Another highlight is that the final of the competition traditionally takes place during the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animation Film- a true festival of creativity and inspiration!
