Study shows: poor application processes damage employers in Berlin
bad recruiting practices endanger the employer call
The importance of a positive employer image cannot be emphasized enough, especially in times of an acute shortage of skilled workers. A current study by Softgarden, which was carried out from May to July 2024, illustrates how a lack of quality can damage the reputation of companies in the recruitment process. The results are based on the experiences of over 5,000 applicants and show serious criticisms of the existing procedures.
Experiences of the applicants
The survey shows that only 45.2 % of the participants are completely satisfied with the application process. This is an alarming signal for companies and indicates that general perception in public is negatively affected. Only 42.3 % of the applicants feel well informed about the vacancies, while 49.6 % note that the traceability of the information is insufficient. This often means that potential new employees decide against an application.
bad job advertisements - another problem
Another central element is the job advertisements themselves. Over 52 % of the respondents stated that they have already refrained from applying because of an unclear or poorly formulated advertisement. Often this is criticized with exaggerated promises and poor linguistic formulations that give the impression that the tender was written by an inexperienced.
Negative experiences spread quickly
particularly worrying is the fact that dissatisfied applicants share their poor experiences above average; 57.1 % of them bring up their negative experiences in networks or valuation platforms. In contrast, it is only 43.5 %with satisfied applicants. These developments can have dramatic effects on the company's image, since potential applicants are more likely to react to negative reports.
The influence on the employer brand
The recruitment methods and strategies play a crucial role in the perception of a brand. Kirill Mankovski, Managing Director of Softgarden, comments: "Good processes and recruiting media strengthen the employer brand, while badly damage it. In terms of employer reviews, the negative consequences of insufficient application processes are extremely difficult to correct."
The necessary turn in recruiting
The study illustrates the need for companies to rethink their recruitment approaches and to improve their processes and job advertisements. A clear, transparent communication that meets actual job requirements and provides authentic information should be the goal of every employer brand. The understanding that talented workers make an informed choice is essential for the future of companies.
