Star singers in Spandau: Children fight for education and against child labor!
On today's Epiphany Day, January 6, 2026, the district mayor of Spandau, Frank Bewig, together with the district councilors Tanja Franzke and Gregor Kempert, received the star singers from the communities of St. Markus and Maria, Help of Christians in the Spandau town hall. The children appeared dressed as the three kings Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar and brought with them the traditional chalk symbol “20*C+M+B+26”.
As part of their visit, the star singers sang songs and sent blessings for a successful year 2026. This year's motto for the campaign is: "School instead of factory - star singing against child labor". This important message focuses on the living conditions of children who suffer from exploitative working conditions and have no access to education.
Commitment to disadvantaged children
The Star Singers actively campaign for the right to education and protection of children. Your fundraising campaigns support projects that enable disadvantaged children to attend school and offer prospects for growing up safely. Star singing is a centuries-old custom that represents the largest solidarity act by children for children worldwide.
Numerous aid projects are funded every year that aim to open up new opportunities for the participating children. After the blessing, the star singers visited the district mayor's office, where they received a small bag of sweets as a thank you.
District mayor Frank Bewig warmly thanked the committed children for their visit and their remarkable commitment. The campaign contributes significantly to raising awareness of the current challenges facing children worldwide and shows how solidarity young people can be.
