On -site climate protection: Workshop for the conversion of the forest parking system!
The district office Steglitz-Zehlendorf cordially invites the residents to an information event on Friday, October 11, 2024. This will take place for the first time as part of a workshop that will be held in the Johanneskirche Schlachtenensee in Matterhornstrasse from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The background to this initiative is the project "Climate -sensitive conversion of the forest parking facilities on the Krumme Lanke and the Schlachtensee". This measure is funded as part of the federal program to adapt urban and rural areas to climate change. The aim of the project is to create a habitat in one of the most beautiful recreational zones in Berlin that combines both natural and climate protection aspects.
goals of the project
In order to meet the requirements for climate protection, the project strives for several key measures. One of the main aspects is the creation and securing of an ecologically valuable recreation room. This should not only increase the quality of life of the citizens, but also serve as an important cold air source for the city. Among other things, sustainable rainwater management is introduced to guide the precipitation so that it can be used efficiently.
In addition, the existing vegetation should be preserved and supplemented with new, climate silver plants. The aim of the project is to increase CO2 binding and at the same time minimize soil erosion. Biodiversity in this area is also to be increased by these measures, which will benefit both flora and fauna.
A central point of the workshop are the three thematic tables, where everything revolves around nature conservation, local recreation and orientation. According to the lecture from the road and green space office, the participants have the opportunity to actively participate in the discussions. The aim is not only to inform the residents, but also to raise awareness of climate protection and adaptation measures.
The district office sees this as an excellent opportunity to work together with the population on a sustainable future for the district and to give the green areas new shine. This initiative is of great importance for local environmental awareness and the community involved, which can ensure that nature remains an integral part of urban life in the future.
