Exciting excursions and free energy advice in the environmental shop center!

Karl-Marx-Allee 31, 10178 Berlin, Deutschland - On July 1, 2025, the new program of the Mitte environmental shop was published, a project by the Umweld- und Nature Protection Office Mitte. District City Councilor Christopher Schriner emphasizes the importance of environmental education and commitment in Berlin. The environmental shop offers a variety of offers that both promote ecological education and provide practical support in environmental issues. Particularly noteworthy are the guided excursions that begin in July and reach until December.

The first excursions under the direction of Mr. Martin Start in July and lead to the Asian water buffalos on the Tegeler. The program also includes topics such as the former border area, the animal world in the large zoo and the Jewish cemetery in Weißensee. In addition, separate excursion dates are possible for groups all year round. This is perceived as an excellent opportunity to explore and learn nature in Berlin.

Competent energy advice

Another important aspect of the program is regular energy advice in cooperation with the consumer center. This takes place every last Monday of the month and deals with topics such as saving electricity, heating changes and measures for thermal insulation. Telephone advice is offered without waiting times, but registration is required. The consultations are free of charge, which makes it easier for many citizens to access important information.

In addition to personal consultations, the environmental shop offers information about environmental and nature conservation issues both by phone and email. All information about the offers is published on the environmental shop website, and the program is also available in citizens' offices and libraries of the district. The program can be sent by post or email on request.

In the context of urban ecology, the working group urban ecology represents an important framework. This aims to explore the importance of urban spaces for nature and humans and to develop solutions for the ecological challenges in cities. The topics that are dealt with in this context include biodiversity loss, extreme weather events and the alienation of the city population from nature. The activities of the working group promote understanding of the potential of urban ecosystems and their importance for the quality of life in cities.

future events, including city ecological excursions, workshops and conferences, are already planned. For example, an excursion in Karlsruhe will take place on July 4, 2025, which focuses on the biology of urban trees. A new special issue in the journal Basic and Applied Ecology will also discuss important current progress in urban ecology and offers a platform for the exchange between scientists and practitioners.
