JSD pilot project: Palliative care for Ukrainian refugees
JSD pilot project: Palliative care for Ukrainian refugees
The Johannessift Diakonie GAG (JSD) has been working with the Spandau district office since spring 2023 on an aid project for refugee people from Ukraine who suffer from life -threatening diseases and need special care. Thanks to the financing of the State Office for Refugee Matters (LAF) for 2024, the project can be continued. District Mayor Frank Werwig praised the commitment and support.
Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, many Berliners have volunteered to help the refugees, including in Spandau. In the first few months, various accommodation options were created through self -initiatives and private sponsors such as the JSD. In the first year after the start of the war, the JSD supported over 100 refugees.
The aid project focuses on refugees from Ukraine with serious illnesses or high palliative needs and their supervising relatives. It offers accommodations for care and calm between treatments and hospital stays. The aim is to stabilize the patient and return to their previous accommodations and, if necessary, the dignified support at the end of life. 20 people are currently being cared for.
The project was financed in 2023 by collaboration between JSD and the Spandau district office as well as funds from the Ukraine action plan and the integration fund. The further financing for 2024 was guaranteed by the LAF. This is a great success for Spandau and Berlin. District Mayor Frank Werbig, the spokesman for the board of directors Andreas Mörsberger and the medical board member Prof. Dr. Med Lutz Fritsche of the JSD celebrated the further financing with the Laf.
The pilot project for palliative care for refugee people from Ukraine is of great importance to ensure that these people are given access to adequate medical treatment. Many thanks to the Senate Department for Labor, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti -Discrimination (SenasGiva), the LAF and the local team for their commitment.
District Mayor Frank Werwig emphasized the importance of secure care and care of the refugees in Spandau and thanked everyone involved. The team is in close exchange with the doctors in the Ukraine Ill's Center Tegel and the treating hospitals to determine the needs of the patients and to discuss the capacity of the team.
