A musical masterpiece from the Baroque! On Friday, March 7, 2025, at 7 p.m., the Spandau citadel will become a unique artistic event. The Capella de la Torre under the direction of the talented Katharina Bäuml brings Francesca Caccinis "La Liberazione di ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina". This piece is not only a musical pleasure, but also a historical event!
Imagine: The year 1625! A time when the opera carried gentle sounds and large emotions into the caves of the palaces. Francesca Caccini, a true pioneer, created the first opera work composed by a woman with "La Liberazione"! Why is that so important? Because she created great things in a world dominated by men - before the whole world even knew what opera really was!
an order work for the Medici
The origins of this baroque juwel are in the magnificent Villa Poggio Imperial in Florence. The Medici family, one of the most influential dynasties of that time, gave the order to impress a special guest from Poland. In the middle of gloss and Gloria, the pieces were selected so that Caccini, the court musician, was able to develop her talents - and that was brilliant!
What does the audience expect? The story revolves around the knight Ruggiero, trapped in the magical world of sorceress Alcina. Caccini brings her characters to life with a mixture of simple melodic elements and colorful instrumental sounds. She created a musical experience that does not leave anyone cold in depth and emotion! "La Liberazione di Ruggiero" is not just a piece, it's a discovery!
an updated masterpiece for today's ears
Under the patronage of district councilor Dr. Carola Brückner is looking forward to presenting Caccini's masterpiece in a new guise. "It becomes clear here that even 400 years ago, women created great things if they only left them," emphasizes Brückner proudly. The audience has the rare opportunity to experience two remarkable women of the old music - Katharina Bäuml and Mirella Weingarten - who fill the piece with fresh life.
