Barrier -free bus stops in Spandau: District office starts renovation work for the first stops

According to a report by www.berlin.de , the district office Spandau begins with the first renovation work for barrier-free Bus stops in the district. The two stops "Jenneweg" on the Hohenzollernring (line 337) and "Kurzen Straße/Mittelstraße" on Falkenhagener Strasse (line 134) are to be rebuilt. The work is expected to be completed by the end of November 2023 and should affect the flow of traffic as little as possible during the renovation. Only one lane will be available during the construction work, with a direction of travel will be priority.

The modernization of the bus stops includes various barrier-free measures such as "Kasseler Borden" and "tactile floor slabs", which make it easier to get on and off for passengers and enable visually impaired people to access the buses. In addition, the stops with concrete in the road area are stabilized to minimize wear.

For the current year and 2024, the Spandau district office is planning to modernize eight other stops, which are located on the opposite side of the stops already mentioned as well as on the locations "Galenstrasse/Hohenzollernring", "Borchertweg" and "Moritzstraße". In addition, a further 12 bus stops in Spandau are to be redesigned, including all stops in Seeburger Straße and the “Am Omnibushof” stop in Wilhelmstadt.

The conversion campaign is financed by the "special fund of infrastructure of the growing city" of the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. The budget for the modernization of a total of 10 stops is around 865,000 euros.
