Asian New Year and Photovoice exhibition in Berlin - invitation to the cultural event

On February 17, 2024, the Society for Psychosocial Health Promotion for Migrant groups from Asian cultural areas (GEPGEMI e.V.) invites you to the Asian New Year and the photovoice exhibition in cooperation with the district mayor Frank Werwig and the representative for participation and integration of the Spandau district office. The event offers insights into Asian culture and Asian life in the district and in Berlin.

The Asian New Year is celebrated for the first time in one of the twelve town hall of Berlin, and the town hall Spandau will serve as host. The aim is to promote the visibility of the Asian communities and to create a better understanding of the Asian life in the district and in Berlin. The initiative "Asian active - for a life without discrimination!" aims to create a room for a variety of exchange and encounters through events like this and bring people together with and without Asian migration history.

as part of the project "Asian active - for a life without discrimination!" the participatory research method "Photovoice" was applied to give insights into the living environments of people with and without Asian migration history. The participants have created impressive photo images with stories to share their experiences, worries, wishes and concerns.

The photovoice hiking exhibition will be presented from 9 to February 23, 2024 in the pillared hall of the Spandau town hall. On February 17, 2024, the New Year is celebrated as part of the exhibition according to the lunar calendar. A multifaceted cultural program with music and dance is offered to celebrate the New Year. Digital guided tours of the photovoice exhibition as well as a round of conversation with representatives from the administration and the co-researchers of the photovoice group on the subject of "well-being in the migration society and Asian communities in Spandau and Berlin" round off the event.

The project "Asian active - for a life without discrimination!" is part of the federal program "Live democracy!" And is devoted to the diversity design. Through various projects, the Gepgemi e.V. contributes to improving the social and health participation of the Asian migrant groups. The initiative cordially invites you to exchange and celebrate together to promote a better understanding in the migration society.
