Action group in Spandau: Together against bullying and violence in schools!

Spandau, Deutschland - On July 8, the action day "We - together against bullying" took place in Spandau, organized by the district student committee Spandau and the district office Spandau. Around 150 participants, including schoolchildren, students and teachers and pedagogical specialists, set a clear signal against exclusion, bullying and violence in everyday school life. District councilor Tanja Franzke emphasized the importance of a strong alliance between schools, specialists and civil society in order to be able to act effectively against bullying and especially cyberbullying.

The action day offered a framework for a discussion about the causes of (cyber) bullying and for the development of effective strategies to combat it. In interactive workshops, the difference between conflicts and systematic forms of bullying was particularly discussed. In addition, the dynamics of digital violence were analyzed and protective measures for those affected were presented. A “market of possibilities” offered information stands and creative offers, such as a graffiti workshop and a video corner, as well as an open discussion that promoted the exchange.

The importance of a clear pedagogical strategy in dealing with cyberbullying is undisputed. In this context, Klicksafe must be based on a solid pedagogical foundation in order to be sustainable. Aspects such as courage to lead, sovereignty, as well as a clear value orientation are essential. The aim is to promote a relationship culture that strengthens emotional empathy and compassion.

Around 14 % of learners in Germany report on school bullying, as from an analysis of the rki -studie. Cyberbullying is also a growing problem, especially among gender -diverse young people who are disproportionately affected by bullying experiences. The data show that cyberbullying has increased between 2017/18 and 2022, which underlines the urgent need for effective anti-bullying measures in schools.

The campaign in Spandau was enabled by supporting children and youth officers as well as by various organizations such as the Konzlikthaus e.V. and the Spandau media competence center CIA. The financing was made through the youth democracy fund Berlin, which illustrates the importance of supporting smaller initiatives in the fight against bullying.
