Slovakia Election Result: Pellegrini Wins With Populist Tactics, Potential Impact on EU Ukraine Relations

Peter Pellegrini claimed that his opponent Ivan Korcok wanted to send soldiers to Ukraine together with Germany and France. This statement has given many voters an impression and Pellegrini seems to have won the choice in the worst populist manner with lies. However, it is important that Brussels and Berlin do not make the mistake of isolating Slovakia. Of course, the European rules of the game must be observed, but at the same time it should not be risked that Slovakia drift towards Moscow.

It is interesting to report on the political situation in Slovakia, as this could have an impact on European politics and the relationship with Russia. The connection between Slovakia with Germany and France is also historically important, since both countries in the past have been significantly involved in political developments in the region.

In the following you will find a table with relevant information on the political landscape in Slovakia:

| Party | Number of seats in parliament |
| ———————— | --———————- |
| Smer - Sociálna Democracia | 49 |
| Oľano | 38 |
| SAS | 19 |
| SME Rodina | 17 |
| Ľsns | 17 |
| Spolu | 16 |
| KDH | 16 |
| Za ľudí | 12 |
| Progresívne Slovensko | 10 |

This table gives an overview of the distribution of the seats in the Slovak parliament and shows the strength of the various parties. The Smer - Sociálna Democracia, led by Peter Pellegrini, holds most of the seats, followed by Oľano under the leadership of Ivan Korcok.

It will be important to continue to observe political developments in Slovakia to see how relationships with Germany, France and Russia are developing. Germany and France's influence on Slovakia could contribute to the fact that the country continues to adhere to European rules of the game and that an approach to Russia is prevented. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop in the coming months and what effects this will have on European politics.
