Change school grounds: more green areas for our children!
in Germany breadless to the climate -plagued schoolyard! The German Environmental Aid (DUH) raises the alarm and pushes to a fundamental turn in the design of school premises at the conference on the Ministers of Education. The time of the dreary concrete must come to an end - the schools have to become greener!
Over 32,000 schools in Germany are transformed into parroted "concrete deserts". Instead of ensuring the necessary cooling and relaxation, they are a eyesore in the middle of heat waves and extreme weather that affect us unstoppable! Barbara Metz, the DUH federal manager, makes it clear how hostile the current conditions are: "The Stone Age prevails at German schoolyards!"
Green future required!
The DUH calls for specific measures: Nationwide minimum standards for new buildings and conversions of schoolyards are needed! In addition, financial resources and personnel support from the federal and state governments are essential. Children should not only learn natural experiences and biodiversity theoretically, but also be able to experience directly in the school garden or under shade -giving trees.
"We want more green instead of gray!", Metz continued. "The extreme weather conditions make the current schoolyards into intolerable learning locations. Now is the perfect time to move the member countries of the Conference of Ministers of Culture to rethink!"
And that's not all! The DUH also calls up the citizens to become active and to finally demand green schoolyards in their municipalities! What can you ask for more? Everyone can help realize the common goal of a natural education - so just tackle!
become active for change!
A claim paper with ten exact claims is already distributed to the participants of the Conference of Ministers of Culture. Initiated by the working group "Sustainable schoolyards", which is made up of environmental organizations, schools and scientists, this is a clear message: If we do not act today, it will be too late tomorrow!
already over 80 schools have received support from the natural and climate -adapted redesign from DUH. Are you interested in a press appointment in one of the sample schools? The Duh newsroom is ready! Write to press@duh.de and stand up for our common green vision!
