A dark shadow lies over Reinickendorf: Marlies Wanjura, the popular district mayor and the first woman in this key position, gone from us forever at the age of 79! Her sudden death not only shocked politics, but also touches the hearts of all Reinickendorfer. From 1995 to 2009 she was the face of the district and shaped its development like no other.
Marlies Wanjura was born in Berlin on January 7, 1945. She started her political career in 1991 as a city councilor for health and environmental protection. Soon she rose to the deputy district mayor and then conquered the office of district mayor in 1995. Her visions and tireless use set standards - she initiated numerous projects to promote and improve social cohesion. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry honored the district twice as the "most economic-friendly district of Berlin" thanks to its outstanding economic policy commitment.
The legacy of an extraordinary personality
Wanjura was not just a political size, she was a woman of the people! They made their closeness to the citizens, their open manner and the ability to respond to people's concerns, they made them a loved one. Memories of them are characterized by warmth and reliability - it was always an open ear for the worries and wishes of the Reinickendorfer.

In order to pay the last honor to Marlies Wanjura, a condolence book is opened in the foyer of the district office. Everyone is invited to write down their thoughts, memories and condolences. From Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the doors are open - an opportunity to mourn together and to appreciate the wonderful woman who has shaped Reinickendorf so strongly.
