More equality: Pulse lecture shows gaps
More equality: Pulse lecture shows gaps
On March 5, 2024 at 7:30 p.m., Karin Höhne, head of the equal opportunities at the Berlin Institute of Health (Charité), will give an impulse lecture that illuminates the existing social inequalities between men and women. Despite progress in equality, there are still clear differences, such as unequal payment, unequal distribution of unpaid care and less presence of women in management positions.
These topics are not only for women themselves, but for all society. The lecture will take the listeners on a trip to important women from the past and the present and show which barriers still exist and what each individual can do for more equality.
It is important to look at the historical perspective in order to understand how women in science and society were often underrepresented and insufficiently recognized. Despite outstanding services, they were often denied opportunities and their successes were not appropriately recognized.
The event takes place in the Humboldt Library, Karolinenstraße 19, 13507 Berlin, and is available free of charge. Following the lecture, the exhibition "Berlin - capital of the scientists" can be visited.
This event takes place as part of international women's day and offers an opportunity to appreciate the important role of women in science and continue to stand up for equality.
A table with data on women in management positions or the gender Pay GAP could also illustrate the problem and complement the context of the event. This would show that the topics addressed in the lecture are also locally relevant questions that continue to require attention.
