Reinickendorf honors top athletes: medal rain for athletes!

Scharnweberstraße / Uranusweg, 13467 Berlin, Deutschland - On July 11, 2025, an impressive master's ceremony for the athletes from Reinickendorfer Association took place on the district's own sports facility on Scharnweberstraße / Uranusweg. District Mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (CDU) and sports city councilor Harald Muschner (CDU) presented medals to the athletes who had won significant championship titles last year. A total of 136 gold, 90 silver and 372 bronze medals were awarded, which impressively underlines the sporting success and the diversity of the disciplines on offer. Demirbüken-Wegner was impressed by the performance of the athletes and thanked coaches, trainers, parents and sponsors for their support.

In his speech,

Sports City Councilor Harald Muschner emphasized the importance of sports promotion in the district and pointed out the necessary expansion of the sports infrastructure. Both interlocutors also emphasized the valuable contribution of the volunteers in the clubs, which act as the cornerstone of social cohesion. Without their commitment, the successes in sports business would be unthinkable.

Dieter Braunsdorf Medal: Honoring appreciation

Another focus in the district is on the recognition of volunteering activities in sports. For example, the district plans to honor the Dieter Braunsdorf medal in bronze, silver and gold for many years. This medal is reminiscent of Dieter Braunsdorf, who worked as chairman of the sports committee in Reinickendorf for over 16 years and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to competitive sports. The tender for the nomination for the medal shows how important volunteering for the organized sports landscape in the district is.

clubs are asked to submit suggestions to appreciate long -term voluntary activities. Applications must be submitted by October 11, 2024 and can be transmitted by email and post.

Volunteering: Foundation of Sports in Berlin

The Berlin Sport lives from around 60,000 volunteers in about 2,300 sports clubs. The support for the volunteering contributes significantly to the successful youth work and organization of the clubs. Without these brave helpers, working in organized sports business would hardly be possible. The Berlin Senate is actively committed to improving the framework conditions for civic engagement and has launched initiatives such as the Berlin volunteer card and the Berlin Volunteer Pass to promote the culture of recognition.

These efforts clearly show how important it is to honor the voluntary commitment and to strengthen its importance for sport in the community.
