Queer wins - a sports utopia: revolutionary perspectives on top sport

a new perspective on sport and inclusion: The film "Queer wins-a sports utopia"

The Olympic Games are a symbol of sporting competition and cohesion of the nations. However, the historical participation of women and the inclusion of people who do not fit into the traditional binary gender scheme for a long time were not a matter of course. The film "Queer wins-a sports utopia" illuminates these topics from a fascinating mix of documentation and fiction. Director Julia Fuhr Mann tells the stories of queer athletes and takes a humorous look at the history of sport. The film will be shown on TV on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in the 3sat media library and on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 10:25 p.m.

The film "Queer wins-a sports utopia" tells the stories of athletes who do not fit into the binary gender scheme and have to prevail against discrimination and prejudices in sports. The Olympic stadiums of Athens and Berlin are honored to symbolic places where the hero is honored from then and now. The stories of those who never had the opportunity to stand on the podium are told with passion and dedication. The film takes the audience on a journey through the history of sport and shows how diversity and inclusion enrich the sports area.

In "Queer wins-a sports utopia", filmmaker Julia Fuhr speaks man with various athletes who had to struggle with discrimination and challenges in the past. Amanda Reiter, a trans woman and marathon runner, was revoked by a trick. Annet Negesa, an 800-meter runner from Uganda, was pushed into a hormone-changing operation by international sports associations, which had far-reaching physical and mental consequences. The film shows the individual struggles and triumphal moments of these athletes and gives them a voice.

The film "Queer wins-a sports utopia" celebrated international premiere under the original title "Life is not a Competition, but i’m Winning" at the international film festival of Venice 2023 and has already received several awards. Camerafrau Caroline Spreitzenbarth was honored for the best image design at the "First Steps Awards".
