Police Berlin in the crosshairs: three officials arrested for organized theft!

In a significant blow to crime in Berlin, three police officers were arrested this morning. According to police report-berlin.de , 170 police forces were mobilized on behalf of the public prosecutor's office. These measures extended to residential and business addresses as well as vehicles in the districts of Charlottenburg, Neukölln and Rummelburg.

The suspects aged 26, 32, 37 and 39 are accused of having stolen from at least ten shops worth several thousand euros between July 5, 2023 and August 25, 2023. The stolen goods include clothing, a high -quality bag as well as food and drugstore products. A 32-year-old suspect was arrested on the basis of an existing arrest warrant.

The context of theft crime in Germany

The current events are part of a worrying trend. According to Statista , an increase in the theft offenses was recorded in 2022 after they had decreased constantly since 2015. A total of around 1.78 million thefts were recorded in Germany. The most common forms of theft were shoplifting last year, followed by bicycle thefts and thefts from motor vehicles.

The development of the reconnaissance ratio in the event of a housing die, which was only 16.1 percent in 2022, is particularly alarming, while it was 31.1 percent in the event of a car theft. Despite the increasing numbers, there has been a decline in the predatory murders in the past 20 years. Nevertheless, over 38,000 predatory offenses were recorded in 2022.

Today's arrests and the simultaneous searches underline the ongoing efforts of the police to act against gang -based thefts and corrupt behavior within their own ranks. The accused are now brought before an investigative judge at the Tiergarten district court.
