Care costs in Berlin explode: over 3,000 euros per month due!
In Berlin, the costs for care in homes increase considerably. From July 1, 2024, the average share of the residents is 3,123 euros per month, which corresponds to an increase of 228 euros compared to the previous year. In this way, the own contribution exceeds the 3,000 euro mark in the first year and is well above the nationwide average of EUR 3,018. The situation for those in need of care in Berlin is particularly worrying, since the city has significantly higher costs compared to Brandenburg, where the average is 2,875 euros. This reports rbb24.
A concise example of the high costs offers Bremen, where the highest share of its own in the first year costs 3,449 euros per month, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia with 3,427 euros. The main causes of these drastic cost increases are increasing personnel and living costs. Persons in need of care must therefore also pay for care themselves. The own contribution for maintenance and support nationwide is 1,862 euros a month and has increased by 184 euros since mid -2024.
Additional loads for home residents
Despite various relief surcharges, which have been introduced since 2022 and reduce costs by 15% in the first year, the own contribution remains a significant financial burden for many people in need of care. Currently, those affected have to raise an average of 1,991 euros for care themselves, which corresponds to an increase of 126 euros since mid -2024. Accommodation and meals of an average of EUR 1,018 per month are also taken into account, the costs of which have also increased.
Ulrike Elsner, CEO of the replacement health insurance association, expresses worrying concerns about these high stress for the residents. The situation is tightened by the continued discussion about reform proposals, which is developed by a federal-state working group under the direction of Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU). The aim is to make nursing a topic that is not a risk of poverty. The Federal Audit Office criticizes that 12.6% of those in need of care in homes, but cause 30% of the long -term care insurance expenses.
reforms in view
expectations indicate that the relief surcharges could increase to 7.3 billion euros this year. While it is discussed whether a nationwide own share cover should be introduced or more tax funds are made available, nursing care funds require the reimbursement of corona expenses and the transfer of pension contributions for caring relatives. The Federal Audit Office makes it clear: "There is no lack of knowledge, but in the will for implementation," which underlines the urgency of a reform.
