Care company: fight together for more dignified support

The challenge of domestic care: a social concern

On September 8, the day of the nursing relatives, the focus is on an important topic: care as a social task. In view of acute lack of care and demographic development, which makes more and more people dependent on support, responsibility for care must be discussed comprehensively. The relatives who often have to balance between professional life and the care of their loved ones are particularly affected.

Prof. Dr. Notburga Ott, director of the Federal Association We Care, calls for a national debate about the importance of an adequate care system. "Care must not be worn primarily by the relatives," says Ott. This statement hits the nerve of the current discussion, because the stress for families is enormous. Relatives are often under pressure, while they supply their loved ones and at the same time neglect their own needs.

Heinrich Stockschlaeder, also a board member of we care e.V., emphasizes that in addition to the financial aspects of long -term care insurance, legal framework conditions and social structures must also be reconsidered. "It is about distributing responsibility for the care," explains Stockschlaeder and refers to the need to create networks that combine professional care with volunteer and neighborly help.

The association has found that people in need of severe care are often faced with problems to receive professional support. At a time when access to such services becomes more difficult, the urgency of developing integrative care models grows. These should involve all areas of society to promote Caring communities who relieve the people in need of care and their relatives.

In addition, the association pleads for a paradigm shift in the care perspective. Instead of considering the care as a deficit, we should go on a person -centered perspective. The aim is to enable people in need of care to lead a largely self -determined life - and without overloading relatives.

The urgency of this topic is evident, not only for those affected, but for the entire society that has to face the challenges of an aging population. The care and support of relatives should not only be a private matter, but also requires commitment and solutions at all social levels.
