Pre -purchase right used: Tuntenhaus saved in Pankow
The Tuntenhaus in Kastanienallee 86 was successfully saved by the Pankow district office after no transfer agreement was made. The Edith Maryon Foundation, a foundation that deprives the land of speculation, will receive the house and provide 25 residential units for community residential projects. The cooperative Selfbau EG will renovate the house on behalf of the foundation and then take over the heritage law. District City Councilor Cornelius Bechtler is relieved and emphasizes the importance of the Tuntenhaus as a place of diversity for queer people.
The tunting house is located in the social conservation area "Teutoburger Platz". The Federal Administrative Court recently decided that the right of first refusal in social conservation areas is only possible for land with urban planning grievances. Although the buildings on the property meet the goals of the preservation regulations, they have significant defects, which enabled the pre -purchase for the Tuntenhaus.
The rescue of the Tuntenhaus is an important step to secure affordable living space for vulnerable groups and to maintain the diversity of Berlin. It is an example of how citizens, foundations and cooperatives can work together to approach social problems and to secure living space for everyone.
