Pankow collects donations for memorial in Riwne
Pankow collects donations for memorial in Riwne
In July 2023, the official city partnership between Pankow and the West Ukrainian city of Riwne was sealed. As part of this partnership, the Pankow district collects donations for the "Sosenki" memorial, which is reminiscent of Riwne's Jews murdered in November 1941. The fundraising campaign was created together with the Pankower Association of the Persecuted of the Nazi regime-Association of Anti-Fascists (VVN-BDA) e.V.
To enable the restoration of the name boards, steles and the entrance area of the memorial, further donations are required by September 30, 2024. Under the current war conditions in Riwne, the resources for this work are missing on site. District Mayor Dr. Cordelia Koch emphasized the importance of the support of the twin city and called on to make generous donations.
The murder of 17,500 Jews in Sosenki in November 1941 by German Wehrmacht soldiers formed the background for the fundraiser. The city twinning is intended to help keep the memory of the victims.
For donations, an account has been set up to which contributions can be transferred. A donation certificate is possible, but the donation is not entitled to consider. Further information on the town twinning, the call for donations and the memorial can be found on the website of the Pankow district.
