The new highlight of the citizens: Interior participation in Pankow is there - and it has a very special name: "Kiezvisions". On September 25th, the groundbreaking image generative AI of the CityLab Berlin was first used to hear the voices of children and young people at the Kiezblock Winskiez. It is a step that could revolutionize the way neighborhoods are designed!

Cornelius Bechtler, district councilor for urban development and civil services, says: "We want to raise citizens: Inner participation to a new level. In particular, the perspectives of our young Generation are crucial for the future of our city!" The message is clear: children and adolescents should not only watch, but actively help shape.

Creative Photosafari for the future

And so for the young participants between 8 and 18 years of age, it went to an adventurous photo safari through the Winsviertel. With their smartphones in their hands, they captured their favorite places, but also the danger spots - from confusing intersections to crowded bike paths. These experiences were then transformed into creative visions: With the help of the AI, innovative ideas for a traffic -calmed, livable neighborhood were created! The gathered suggestions are now included in the planning of the district office, and the new concepts are to be presented in spring 2025.

What is a neighborhood block?

A neighborhood block is more than just a hip name! It is a residential area that excludes car through traffic. Here the car should only play a subordinate role - all goals are still available! The aim is to make the streets more pleasant and lively so that the community can bloom and all residents: comfortable inside.

The Kiezblock Winskiez thus becomes a pioneer in citizen participation, where the ideas of children and adolescents not only belong, but also actively incorporate into the design of their daily life. Pankow shows how it works!
