Online press interview for the presentation of the plastic manifest-appointment on April 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
On April 19, 2024, an online press interview will take place, in which the civil society exit plastic alliance presents the manifesto "#plastikung". The manifesto contains central elements for reversal in dealing with plastic and is supported by various civil society organizations and experts. The event takes place in the run -up to the fourth round of negotiations of the inter -state negotiating committee in Ottawa, Canada, which is intended to develop an international and legally binding agreement against plastic pollution. The ambitious schedule stipulates that the agreement will be negotiated this year. The adoption of such an agreement is of great importance both globally and for Germany in terms of climate, environmental, health and resource protection. The German chemical and plastic industry consumes more oil, gas and electricity than half of all private households and also produces large amounts of disposable packaging. Supermarkets mainly offer products in plastic or disposable packaging, although there are more sustainable and pollutant-free alternatives. The German Packaging Act should be more responsible for manufacturers and dealers and promote unpacked products and reusable systems. As part of the press conference, a current Civey survey on the subject of reusable obligation in to-go gastronomy is also presented.

The negotiating round of the intergovernmental negotiation committee in Ottawa, Canada, is an important global event in relation to the fight against plastic pollution. The adoption of an international and legally binding agreement would be of great importance for both climate, environmental, health and health and resource protection. In this context, Germany, as one of the main consumers of oil, gas and electricity, is particularly relevant in the chemical and plastic industry. German industry also produces large amounts of disposable packaging, although more sustainable alternatives are available. The German Packaging Act should be more responsible for manufacturers and retailers to reduce the use of disposable packaging and to promote unpacked products and reusable systems.
The plastic manifesto "#plastic change", which is published by the civil society exit plastic alliance, contains essential elements for reversal in dealing with plastic. It is supported by various civil society organizations and experts. As part of the press conference, a current Civey survey on the subject of reusable obligation in to-go gastronomy is also presented. The aim of this survey is to record the position of the population on this topic. The survey results could provide information on how consumers and the gastronomy could react to a possible reusable obligation with regard to to-go packaging.
The press conference offers an opportunity to discuss the urgency of a plastic -free future and the need for measures at national and international level. The speakers Janine Korduan, Alexandra Caterbow and Carla Wichmann will bring in their expertise on the topics of circular economy, plastic pollution and civil society.
The federal government cordially invites interested journalists to take part in the press conference. Registration takes place by email to press@bund.net. There is also the possibility to agree interviews with the speakers and receive further information on the topic.
