Christmas time of charity: food donations for needy in Berlin!
The Berliner Tafel starts a large -scale donation project for the upcoming Christmas holidays. From Friday, November 29th, food donations will be collected in 20 selected supermarkets in Berlin. The campaign includes that customers acquire additional items such as chocolate Christmas men, coffee or canned goods by December 7 and hand them over to the volunteers of the Berliner Tafel. The initiative takes place as part of the "One more!" Action and is carried out in 20 Edeka, Kaufland, Lidl and Rewe branches that extend over districts such as Pankow, Reinickendorf and Neukölln. The Berliner Tafel calls for durable and original packaged goods to donate, as they are distributed to people in need in good time. According to the table, the “Laib and Seele” initiative, a collaboration between parishes, the RBB and the Berliner Tafel, around 1,600 volunteers who offer up to 75,000 people in need every week.
The Berliner Tafel itself, which has existed since 1993, has set itself the goal of combating food waste and helping people affected people. In the beginning they only supplied social institutions, but since 2005 the "Laib and Seele" campaign has been a central part of their work. Questions about food and cooking are also dealt with in the children's and youth project Kimba, which brings children closer to the basics of healthy eating.
