Conversion of the Hasenheide: Neukölln reacts to climate change

The district office Neukölln reacts to the effects of climate change to Hasenheide, the largest green area in the district by carrying out extensive renovation measures. In the first major construction phase in the eastern part of the park, around 200 trees and several hundred shrubs were planted in winter and spring. These measures should improve the health of the green area and make them climate -like.

The Hasenheide is in poor condition, since 10 % of the trees have had to be felled prematurely in recent years. In addition, many lawns suffer from drought and high pressure to use. In order to modernize the green area and adapt to climate change, the district of Neukölln receives around 5 million euros from the federal government as part of a funding program for climate adjustment in urban rooms. The goal is to invest the funds in the "Climate silent Hasenheide" project by the end of 2025.

In order to inform the population about the progress and further planning, the district office invites you to a tour of the Hasenheide on June 14, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. District City Councilor Jochen Biedermann will personally give insights into the completed construction phases and present plans for future measures. Interested citizens also have the opportunity to participate and give feedback.

The “Climate silent Hasenheide” project is an important step to maintain the green area in the long term and to adapt to the requirements of climate change. The planned conversion measures will help to improve the Hasenheide as a recreation room for the residents of Neukölln and at the same time make a contribution to environmental protection.

Overall, the initiative of the Neukölln district is a significant step towards sustainable development and care of urban green spaces in times of climate change. The efforts to make the Hasenheide a climate silver and attractive place for citizens are commendable and show the commitment of the district for environmental protection and quality of life.
