Digital progress: Neukölln invites seniors to the information day!
In today's world, the reality of life of over 70-year-olds is significantly changed through progressive digitization. Studies show that digital technologies have a significant influence on everyday life, social contacts and health care for older people. The use of video calls or apps enables seniors to stay in contact with family and friends, while accessing information about health issues and leisure activities on the Internet is also becoming increasingly important. This is reported by the Berlin district office Neukölln .
Another area in which digital services become indispensable for the older generation are doctor's appointments as well as banking and communication with authorities. Special apps for medication management and monitoring vital values are now available. In order to help the elderly to use modern technologies, the Digital Day for senior citizens will take place on June 27, 2025, organized by the district office Neukölln in cooperation with the senior network of AWO Berlin.
Digital Day for Seniors
This event will be held in the Alt-Rudow senior leisure center in Berlin from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Topics such as artificial intelligence, electronic patient files and internet hazards are dealt with in lectures. On -site information stands are set up by various organizations, including the Senior Network Berlin and the police, to provide comprehensive information. The project manager Melanie Thoma emphasizes the importance of basic digital knowledge in order to enable participation in society. District City Councilor Hannes Rehfeldt emphasizes how important it is to reduce fears and offer opportunities. Participation on the digital day is free of charge and registration is not required.
The study by Pro Senectute shows that the use of digital technologies primarily depends on education, interest in technology and digital skills. Factors such as age, gender, income and living region play a less crucial role. Digital participation is becoming increasingly important for the social integration of older people, with not all seniors have sufficient digital skills. Therefore, promoting these skills is essential to prevent exclusion from the technology -dominated world.
How the digital world is accessible
Competent handling of digital media is indispensable for participation in social life. Older people not only need media literacy, but also trust in their own skills in order to be able to use the possibilities of digitization. The Digital opportunities has published a guide to achieve people who support older people. This guide offers instruments for the analysis and understanding of the support requirements of senior citizens as well as instructions for planning and designing needs -based offers.
The changes that digitization brings with it create both challenges and opportunities for the older generation. In order to bridge the digital gap, it is crucial that society and especially local initiatives such as the digital day offer the necessary support and education to integrate seniors into the digital world.
