Berlin gets huge skyscrapers: Estrel Tower grows up!

The estrel Tower in Neukölln slowly takes shape and is traded as the "highlight of Berlin". According to reports from BZ Berlin , the shell of the skyscraper has already reached an impressive height with 160 of planned 176 meters. 45 floors are planned, which should eventually offer a magnificent view of the city. The completion is scheduled for the end of 2025 so that future visitors can get to the planned skybar in the Turmspitze via an internal elevator system. Together with the adjacent estrel Berlin, the largest hotel in Germany, the tower will be connected by a tunnel under the street.

architectural innovations and challenges

The innovative design of the Estrel Tower comes from the renowned architecture firm Barkow Leibinger. There are special aluminum fins on the facade of the tower, which offer both aesthetic and functional advantages. This construction is intended to protect the rooms from overheating in the summer and reduce the need for air conditioning. In order to withstand the extreme wind load, a stable construction was chosen: the tower swings by up to 15 centimeters in strong winds. The construction work that started in July 2021 already required numerous adjustments to increasing construction costs and the challenges of Corona pandemic, such as wikipedia documented.

The use of 52 piles to stabilize the building and a massive base plate of 3.60 meters thick allow the tower to also meet the highest demands. In a three-shift company, around 400 workers are in use for construction. It is expected that all 1100 rooms, including 525 hotel rooms, as well as a fitness and spa area will be completed by 2026. The estrel Tower marks Berlin's growing ambitions in the field of high -rise building and is already the third city nationwide, which has built a building over 150 meters high.
