New nursing competence law: set the course for hospital care

The planned nursing competence law beats high waves! Finally, nursing staff should be able to take on medical tasks that were previously reserved for doctors. A real breakthrough for care, or not? Christoph Radbruch, the chairman of the German Evangelical Hospital Association (DEKV), finds that this innovation must not only be intended for outpatient and inpatient long -term care. "She also has to keep an eye on people in hospitals," he says loudly and clearly!

But what's the criticism? In hospitals, nurses often take on completely different tasks than their colleagues in long -term care. The DEK raises the alarm: In the current draft of the catalog for expanded medicinal activities, the hospitals were simply left out. "How can you make decisions without hearing the voice of hospital care?" Asks Radbruch indignantly.

inadequate consideration of hospital care

It gets even more explosive! Katja Rosenthal-Schleicher, board member of the DEKV and deputy nursing director at the Evangelical Clinic Bielefeld, will today carry the DEK's demands in the important association hearing on the Nursing Competence Act. The association demands that organizations of nursing professions at federal level have the right to take a position. "This is the only way we can ensure that the special requirements for care are taken into account in the hospital," she emphasizes.

The upgrade of care is overdue, but reality looks different. The current nursing staff regulation, PPR 2.0, does not reflect the new tasks of the nursing staff. The time required for nursing work increases with more responsibility. And now it becomes clear: The DEKV calls for adaptation of personnel assessment in the hospital. "We need a legal definition that meets the new requirements," explains Radbruch vigorously.

An important appointment is about

The Federal Cabinet will be advised on November 6, 2024 on the Nursing Competence Act. All eyes are aimed at this crucial session! The extensive statement of the DEKV on this topic can already be found online on the DEKV website-www.dekv.de. It remains exciting whether the voice of care in the hospital is finally heard!
