The tank farm in Lankwitz is located near the Lankwitz length and is currently still being used for the storage of oil tanks. The idea of converting the tanker into a residential complex came up five years ago. At that time, the urban development administration asked that the owner of the tanker should check whether conversion would be possible. Since then, various options have been checked how the tank farm could be used for housing. However, no concrete planning has yet arisen.
The district mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Norbert Kopp, supports the idea of using the tank bearing. He emphasizes that the city and the district want to promote residential and commercial use in this area. In addition, the creation of living space would be urgently needed.
The Potsdamer-Platz Foundation, owner of the tanker, is now planning a discussion about the possible conversion of the site. However, a final decision on future use is still pending.
The tanker on the Teltow Canal has two shipping points where inland ships can be unloaded. There are also various access and transport connections nearby. The area of the tank bearing offers enough space for the construction of apartments.
The Potsdamer-Platz Foundation is a company in the city of Berlin and one of the largest real estate owners in Germany. So far she has not yet decided on the possible use of the tanker.
