A crucial moment in the German ethics debate! The President of the German Bundestag, Bärbel Bas, appointed the new members of the German Ethics Council on October 10th. As a result, the ethics council receives fresh wind and new perspectives that are essential for the social challenges of the future!

A strong team! The selected 20 personalities, who will volunteer for ethical questions in the next four years, have enormous expertise from the fields of natural sciences, medicine, theology and ethics. Her names are Jutta Allmendinger, Petra Bahr, Cornelia Betsch, Hans-Georg Dederer and many more!

The occupation of the Ethics Council

A call to diversity: The German Ethics Council must reflect the diversity of opinion in society. This means that in addition to excellent scientists, people who deal intensively with the ethical questions of the life sciences should also be represented. Among other things, the members of Elisabeth Gräb-Schmidt, Armin Grunwald, Mark Schweda and Judith Simon will continue in their previous role, as their term of office has not yet ended!

A huge blow for the AfD! The AfD parliamentary proposal for the occupation of the council was rejected on June 6th in the Bundestag. The Ethics Council now only counts 25 members instead of the planned 26.

The order of the Ethics Council

The Ethics Council was launched in April 2008 and is therefore an important player in the field of ethical reflection. His order? Explore and advise on questions that affect both individual life decisions and social developments, especially in connection with life sciences and their application. What does that mean for us? A responsible examination of the challenges that the future will give us!

The constituent meeting of the new council takes place on November 14th, in which a new chair and board is elected! An exciting event that will significantly influence the direction of the German ethics discourse!
