New bike road in Wedding: Safe cycling in Berlin Mitte!

Otawistraße 46, 13351 Berlin, Deutschland - On June 2, 2025, it was announced that the Mitte district will invest more in cycling. District city councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green spaces, Christopher Schriner, announced the completion of a new bicycle road along Togostraße in Wedding. The route will extend between African Straße and Transvaalstrasse and is part of the bike ranking network, which is to significantly improve the bicycle infrastructure in Berlin. The implementation of these measures is planned for the second half of 2025. The district thus pursues the goal of increasing security standards for cyclists and improving the quality of stay.

The new bicycle road will not only include clear signage and markings for clarifying the traffic rules, but also storage options for bicycles, cargo bikes and e-scooters at intersections. In addition, delivery zones are intended for commercial traffic along the route to optimize the use of all road users.

Information event and citizen participation

On Thursday, June 5, 2025, an information event with district councilor Christopher Schriner takes place. This will be held in Berlin at 6:30 p.m. in the Otawi-Treff, Otawistrasse 46. Citizens are invited to find out more about the new measures and ask questions. Further information is available on the website of the street and green space office.

This initiative is part of a more comprehensive plan to promote cycling in Berlin, which is based on the analysis of the existing wheel network. In this way, reference is made to the goals and implementation of cycling infrastructure in the traffic monitor. The monitor documents the developments of the wheel network and evaluates the progress since 2018. In Berlin, a total of nine rapid rapid compounds with a total length of around 100 km are to be realized, whereby the connections are also subject to strict standards for safety and comfort.

monitoring and other developments

The annual progress report of the Senate Transport Administration, the Infrastructure Society Infravelo and the districts will also contribute to better understanding of the current situation in bicycle traffic. This report provides information about the financial means used for the expansion of the bicycle infrastructure in recent years, as well as the development of cycling and accident development in the field of cycling.

Overall, the promotion of cycling in Berlin is considered the central component of the mobility strategy. The goal is to create conditions that make cycling more comfortable and safer. The current measures and the planned projects clarify that Berlin is on the way to become a bicycle -friendly city.
