New volunteer officers take on the tasks of the loneliness officer
inspection: loneliness in Berlin-Reinickendorf
The occupation of the loneliness officers in Berlin-Reinickendorf has caused a stir. The office, which was taken over by Annabell Paris in February, is now continued by Katharina Schulz. The decision for the change was made by the district office without naming precise reasons. Nevertheless, all ongoing projects should be continued to combat loneliness, even if Schulz is now also responsible for the loneliness matters in addition to her office as volunteer officers.
The establishment of the position of the loneliness officer was an innovative step because there was no comparable office nationwide. The goal of the agents is to identify lonely people in the community and find solutions to help them. One approach to this is the "Quasseltreff benches" that are set up in Reinickendorf to promote the exchange and communication between the residents.
Loneliness concerns every tenth Berliner, according to the district, and is particularly reinforced by poverty in old age. Statistically speaking, at least 26,600 people are lonely in Reinickendorf. In view of these figures, the role of the loneliness officer is considered an important step to improve social cohesion in the community.
The replacement of the position with Katharina Schulz shows the commitment of the Reinickendorf district in the fight against loneliness. With the influence of the new officers, the work continues to improve the quality of life of the citizens and to relieve the consequences of loneliness.
