After the ban on pro-Palestinian meetings: conflicts between the police and Palestine supporters in Neukölln
On Saturday evening there were conflicts between Palestine supporters and the police in Berlin-Neukölln. Loud firecrackers were ignited and a bike and a shopping cart were damaged. A suspect was arrested and filed a complaint about the Veret of the Explosives Act. Small groups called slogans like "Free Palestine" and were temporarily arrested. The police spoke of a "cat-and-mouse game" with groups of 10 to 25 people, but emphasized that the situation was under control. The demonstration and all replacement events were banned by the police.
According to the police report, Pro-Palestinian groups met on Sonnenallee in Neukölln on Friday evening, although demonstrations had been banned before. Smaller tumulties occurred and a total of 24 people were temporarily arrested. Criminal charges were provided for various offenses, including the breach of the peace, assault, resistance to enforcement officers and disruption of public peace. The police also reported several smearings with a political connection to the Middle East conflict. A pro-Israeli lettering was discovered at the Frankfurter Allee underground station in Lichtenberg. In addition, three painted David stars were found on residential buildings in Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain as well as on a toilet house. Other anti-Israeli posters have been removed, including a banner at the Tempelhof S-Bahn station and anxious posters at the East-Side-Gallery in Friedrichshain. An anti -Semitic lubrication was also found on the building of the Senate Building Administration in Wilmersdorf.
Another incident occurred in Spandau, where a 15-year-old youth was insulted, attacked and kicked by an unknown woman. The perpetrator disappeared while the girl came to the hospital.
The bans on the demonstration and the associated conflicts between Palestine supporters and the police have increased the tensions in Berlin in relation to the Middle East conflict. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and what measures are taken by the authorities to prevent further conflicts.
